NVIDIA Brings AI Supercomputer Production to U.S. Soil for the First Time

Computers and electronics are often built in foreign countries, but NVIDIA brings its AI supercomputer production to the United States for the first time.

The global pandemic caused by the coronavirus opened up the eyes of many companies regarding the need to build and create products closer to where they are used and needed. Specifically, semiconductor computer chips used in modern technology became a huge topic in the automotive industry during the pandemic. As the world moves towards increased use of artificial intelligence, the need for more supercomputers is becoming evident. NVIDIA is working to bring AI supercomputer production to the U.S. for the first time.

The days of old have been gone

The best electronics and entertainment devices used to be manufactured overseas, but that’s been more of a myth in recent years than ever before. Domestic production of electronics is strong, especially with the growth and development of Silicon Valley in California. This tech hub has spurned many technological advances and products, creating more opportunities for growth in the United States. NVIDIA recognizes the potential for growth and development in America and is working to create something special.

Factories are coming

NVIDIA is working with its manufacturing partners to design and build factories in the United States. These factories will be the first in America with AI supercomputer production, increasing the technology sector in the country. The company has commissioned mor than a million square feet of manufacturing space to build and test its Blackwell chips in Arizona and AI supercomputers in Texas. This means growth in the industry and an increased number of jobs in those areas.

Ramping up over the next 12-15 months

The NVIDIA Blackwell chips are already being produced at TSMC’s chip plants in Phoenix, which is the beginning of this new venture. NVIDIA is building plants in Houston and Dallas, partnering with Foxconn and Wistron to mass-produce supercomputers at these two plants. These plants should be operational soon and will ramp up production for the company over the next 12-15 months.

Packaging and testing are required

The supply chain for AI chips and supercomputers is complex, and many industries require this advanced technology to take the next step forward. This means NVIDIA needs the most advanced manufacturing, packaging, assembly, and testing to ensure its products meet and exceed current demands and will sustain transitions as technology grows and evolves. For this reason, they are partnering with Amkor and SPIL for packaging and testing operations in Arizona to ensure the right products for each industry.

Where is the AI industry going?

Why does NVIDIA need AI supercomputer production in the United States? These computers are a new type of data center that processes artificial intelligence and powers the manufacturing sector. Several factories considered gigawatt AI factories are expected to be built over the next few years, and they will be powered by these AI chips and supercomputers. This should help create many jobs and drive economic security for the next couple of decades.

Excitement around an American foothold

For the first time, the world’s AI infrastructure is being built in the United States. Although AI isn’t very old yet, most experts wouldn’t expect the United States to be the chosen location for the production of these AI supercomputers, but that’s not the case. According to Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA:

“The engines of the world’s AI infrastructure are being built in the United States for the first time. Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain, and boosts our resiliency.”

Advanced robotics on the job

NVIDIA will utilize its advanced AI, robotics, and digital twin technologies to design and operate the factories. This incudes using the NVIDIA Omniverse to create digital twins of factories and NVIDIA Isaac GROOT to build robots to automate manufacturing. This means the company will utilize its proprietary technology to create its chips and super computers, thus streamlining the manufacturing process and producing these items faster and more efficiently.

This move by NVIDIA to bring its AI supercomputer production to the United States shows confidence in the American economy and the potential for continued growth in the manufacturing and technology sectors. This is a huge step forward for the company and the areas in which its new facilities will be located, which will experience increased job opportunities for local residents.
